Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

May 19, 2021

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of alternative therapy treatment of physical pain or emotional stress.  It can also be referred to as tapping or acupressure.

People who use this believe that tapping the body can create a balance in your energy and treat physical pain.  Gary Craig created this technique in which he believed a disruption in energy is the cause of all negative emotions & pain.

EFT is very similar to acupuncture in that it focuses on certain points or hot spots to restore a balance to your body's energy.  Stimulating these hot spots through EFT tapping can reduce the stress or negative emotion restoring balance to your disrupted energy.

EFT tapping is done 5 steps:

  1. Identify the issue - for this to be effective you must first identify the issue or fear you may have.
  2. Test the initial intensity - after you establish the problem area, you need to set a level.  On a scale from 0-10, with 10 being the worst/most difficult.  Then set a goal to what you want to reach by the end of the session.
  3. The Set-up - prior to your session, you need to establish a phrase that explains what you're trying to address.  It should focus on recognizing the issue and then accepting yourself regardless of the problem.
  4. EFT tapping sequence - to be effective tapping must be done on the ends of nine hot spots.  Begin with the side of the hand(the karate chop) saying out loud your set-up phrase three times.  Then tap each point seven times moving down the body, finishing at the top of the head.
  5. Test the intensity - At the end of your tapping session, rate your intensity level from 0 -10.  Compare the results with your initial intensity.  If you are not at a 0, repeat the process until you do.
